We at Heimdall Power are happy to announce that we just signed a new contract with the Norwegian TSO Tensio TN, building on our already existing partnership with 18 additional Neurons.

With the help of our Neurons, Tensio will monitor the true capacity of several critical lines in their high voltage grid, both 22 kV and 66 kV lines. In total, four lines with different challenges will be instrumented. This will provide Tensio with insights into the actual available capacity of important backup lines that will be heavily loaded in case of an outage. Hence, our solution will enable a more secure and resilient operation of their grid.

Further, monitoring of line temperature will also provide data for when demand flexibility is needed. Data from the Neurons will give the operating center knowledge of when to activate the available flexibility in the area. Forecasting of dynamic line rating and ampacity gives the flexibility providers predictability as to when their flexibility will be utilized.

Tensio also has a big wind farm in their grid where they have already installed Neurons on the line connected to the wind farm. This deployment has given them a lot of value and ensured that more renewable energy is fed into the grid. Building on this positive experience, Tensio will now instrument one more line in connection with the wind farm, a move that will give them a system monitoring of the true capacity.

Erling Tønne, Senior Engineer (Grid development) at Tensio, is satisfied with the expansion of their collaboration with Heimdall Power: We have a clear strategy on digitizing our grid, both to get more control and utilize its actual capacity in a better way. We have already been working well together with Heimdall Power for a few years, so stepping it up in this way feels like a natural move.
