Even though we recommend most grid operators to go system-wide with their projects, we do acknowledge that a single-line deployment might be viable in some cases.
This typically amounts to projects with specific lines that are subject to extensive ice build up or vibrations causing galloping lines.
For capacity monitoring a system-wide deployment will be beneficial 9 times out of 10, but at Heimdall Power, we also have solid experience with doing Dynamic Line Rating on selected lines. These are typically key lines that see a lot of congestion in an otherwise untroubled system. For instance if you have a radial connected to a solar or wind farm with variable production.
The weakness of a single-line deployment is that you lose the possibility to unlock additional capacity and control of your grid, especially if you also add inn our topology optimizer, Heimdall TOPOLOGY. While a single-line project might solve your most immediate fires, it is not future-proofing your system like a system-wide deployment will do.
